Official Info via City of Miami – NET Service Center:
This Thursday, October 11, 2012, Downtown Miami will be getting a visit from the President of the United States Barack Obama. The President is scheduled to attend an event at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel. As we all know the safety of our President is of extreme importance as well as the safety of those who will be attending the event. As in previous occasions we are aware that during these visits we are seriously impacted with traffic issues and with this event we can expect detours and closures in and around the downtown and Brickell area. Please read below the closure times of the different streets and avenues, we will have police presence throughout the area and when the order is given to close traffic down NO ONE will be allowed to move. So please make arrangements in finding alternate routes
for getting in and out of Brickell or Downtown.
All streets south of SE 1st Street to the Miami River and from SE 2nd Avenue to Biscayne Blvd. will be within the Security Zone.
This area will be completely shutdown from 4:30pm to approximately 5:30pm, to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Once we close this area No Traffic will be allowed to go south on SE 2nd Avenue to get the onto the I-95 junction or to go into the Brickell area.
From 5:30pm to approximately 6:40pm we will have an opening where traffic will be allowed to go south on SE 2nd Avenue.
At 6:45pm till 7:30pm traffic will once again be shutdown to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic from
the area south of SE 1st Street to the Miami River and from SE 2nd Avenue to Biscayne Blvd. will be within the Security Zone.
At 4:00 PM there will be a “hard closure” at SW 7 Street of all northbound traffic. Traffic will be diverted westbound on SW 7 Street. Three will be officers stationed at SW 5 and 6 Streets in order to assist drivers exiting the buildings and hotels on the eastside of Brickell on going either south on Brickell or eastbound on one of the side streets. We must remember that SW 5 Street is under construction and closed off at SW 1 Court and 6 Street will take you straight to S. Miami Avenue which is “ONE WAY” northbound only. Using SW 7 Street or south on Brickell then west on 13 Street is your best shot at going westbound.
After 7:30pm traffic will once again be open.
Other areas affected by traffic will include Brickell and South Dixie Highway from Coral Gables into Downtown Miami.
